Junior Nationals

We are extremely excited to announce that the UPA is bringing the Junior Nationals Team Tryouts for the boys and girls to Chapel Hill.  Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Rob Sayre-Mccord and the Triangle Youth Ultimate League the tryouts will be taking place at UNC-Chapel Hill on March 13-14th (see details below).

To make this event a success we need your help!  We need host families for these young players.  Many of these players will be flying to this event or driving long distances and free lodging would be of great help to them.  Currently, we are estimating that we will need to find lodging for approximately two-thirds of the tryouts (about 50-60 players).

Possible hosting *duties* may include:
~providing sleeping space for players
~providing transportation to and from the fields Saturday/Sunday
~providing transportation to and from the airport Friday/Sunday

Letter from the UPA:

Happy New Year! We are excited to announce the dates and locations of the two try- out camps for the U.S. Under-20 National Teams. Forty boys and 40 girls will be selected to attend each of the two camps based on logistics and the preferences noted in your application. From the 80 athletes invited to the camps for each team, the final roster will contain 18-22 athletes plus a maximum of four alternates per team.

The East Camp will be hosted by the Triangle Youth Ultimate League and held at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from March 13-14. The field site is approximately 25 minutes from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and the community is excited to be hosting the athletes and the event for the first time.

The West Camp will be hosted by DiscNW and held at the Skagit River Park in Burlington, WA from March 27-28. Burlington is approximately 90 minutes north of the Seattle International Airport. The DiscNW community has hosted a number of events at these lush fields and welcomes back the U-20 athletes once again.

If you know that you cannot attend a camp on one of the weekends above, please let me know as soon as possible.

Head coaches Ben Van Heuvelen (Boys') and John Sandahl (Girls') have been working hard with their coaching staffs over the past few months to review all of your applications. Athletes will be notified by email regarding the selections to the try-out camps by the end of the day on Monday, January 18. Thank you for your patience while we give each of you the time and consideration you deserve.
